MODERATOR: Rasu Shrestha, MD, MBA, Chief Innovation Officer, UPMC and Executive Vice President, UPMC Enterprises

As chief innovation officer for UPMC, Dr. Shrestha plays a leading role in driving UPMC’s innovation strategy, serving as a catalyst for transforming the organization into a more patient-focused and economically sustainable system. Dr. Shrestha also serves as the executive vice president of UPMC Enterprises, the innovation and commercialization arm of UPMC.

Dr. Shrestha has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the 26 “Smartest People in Health IT,” and InformationWeek named him one of the “Top 20 Health IT Leaders Driving Change” and a “Top Healthcare Innovator.” Prior to joining UPMC, Dr. Shrestha was informatics director at the University of Southern California, where he was also a professor of radiology research at the Keck School of Medicine. He serves as the chair of the Informatics Scientific Program Committee at the Radiological Society of North America and is also a longtime member of the Advisory Board of KLAS Research.

Jill Hagenkord, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Color

Dr. Hagenkord is a board-certified pathologist with subspecialty boards in molecular genetic pathology. As Chief Medical Officer at Color, Dr. Hagenkord is involved in health product strategy, identification and evaluation of strategic business partnerships, regulatory strategy, health information review, and the development of provider and patient support tools.

She also serves as the company liaison to medical professional societies as an active member in the Association for Molecular Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, and the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s Roundtable on Genomics and Precision Health. Prior to joining Color, Jill was the Chief Medical Officer at 23andMe, Invitae, and Complete Genomics.

Mylynda Massart, MD, PhD, Co-Investigator, All of Us Pennsylvania

Dr. Massart is a board-certified Family Medicine physician at UPMC, and assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh. As co-investigator for the All of Us Pennsylvania research project, Dr. Massart is working on community education and engagement. In addition, she is working to create a biobank at the University of Pittsburgh, and is developing systems to return precision medicine results to providers and patients.

Dr. Massart currently serves as the medical director at UPMC Matilda Theiss Health Center, and as a co-director for the HUB Core: Integrating Special Populations at the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CSTI). Dr. Massart has experience working with diverse populations across the lifespan including obstetrics, pediatrics, adults, and older adults.

Martin Reese, PhD, Co-Founder, CEO, and President, Fabric Genomics

Dr. Reese is a pioneer in the field of genomics and bioinformatics, and has led and co-founded various companies such as ValiGen and Neomorphic. He co-created the two machine-learning algorithms VAAST and Phevor, which are key components of Fabric Genomics’ software platform and an essential part of the bioinformatics pipelines at institutions such as Rady Children’s Institute for Genomics, Genomics England, and LabCorp.

Prior to Fabric Genomics, Dr. Reese developed human genome annotation software at Neomorphic, a company which he co-founded, and served as President and Chief Scientific Officer. Dr. Reese’s research has contributed to various standards and large-scale projects in genomics, including the UCSC genome browser, and the EGASP international gene assessment project.

Houman Modarres, Senior Director of IP Networks, Nokia

Mr. Modarres has a long history on the leading edge of networking technology. Houman has gained extensive expertise with network leaders including Alcatel-Lucent, Nuage Networks, 3Com Corporation, Nortel Networks, Bay Networks, and startup TiMetra Networks. Houman holds an MBA from the University of California Berkeley and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University.
