Shiv Rao is the co-founder and CEO of Abridge, which uses groundbreaking machine learning to help people understand the details of their care and follow through on their doctors’ advice. He is also a faculty member and practicing cardiologist at UPMC’s Heart and Vascular Institute.

After working as a health practitioner for more than a decade, Shiv knew there could be a better, more scalable way for people to stay on top of their health. He brings a deep passion for building and partnering with technologies that can help both patients and clinicians. Inspired by their own experiences as patients, clinicians, and caregivers, Shiv and the team at Abridge have created a culture at Abridge that is founded on doing things the “inverse” way in a legacy system—focusing on consumers and clinicians, instead of the system; focusing on outcomes, instead of billing; and focusing on the end-user experience, instead of a box checking mandate.

Shiv completed his medical education and training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the University of Michigan.
