Dr. Sarah Anne Tilstra, MD, MS, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. She serves as the Section Chief of Women’s Health at UPMC and is the Director of the Women’s Health Track in the UPMC Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Tilstra is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Tilstra’s primary research interests include advancement of the clinical care for women, clinical reasoning, medical education, physician wellness, burnout and coping, curriculum development and evaluation, and the state of women in academic medicine. Dr. Tilstra facilitated the development and served as the Executive Editor of an evidenced-based textbook on Sex- and Gender-Based Women’s Health for primary care providers.

As an educator, Dr. Tilstra is dedicated to training the next generation of medical professionals. She plays a pivotal role in the UPMC Internal Medicine Residency Program, particularly in the Women’s Health Track, where she mentors and guides residents through their medical education.

Women’s health is a key focus of Dr. Tilstra’s professional career. She is committed to providing comprehensive care to her patients, addressing a wide range of health issues that women face. Her clinical expertise ensures that her patients receive the highest quality of care.

Dr. Tilstra earned her BS from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, an MD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and an MS in Medical Education from the University of Pittsburgh.
