Sam Reiman
Director • Richard King Mellon Foundation
Sam Reiman serves as the director and as a trustee of the Richard King Mellon Foundation, a private philanthropy based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In this capacity, Sam oversees the Foundation’s administrative, programmatic, community, and strategic planning functions. As announced in January 2021, this included leading the Foundation’s new 10-year strategic plan to invest more than $1.2 billion dollars in southwestern Pennsylvania and nationally across the program areas of economic development, economic mobility, health and wellbeing, conservation, social impact investments, and organizational effectiveness. With assets estimated at $3.4 billion at the end of 2021, the Foundation provides approximately $140 million in grants and program related investments annually and is one of the 50 largest foundations in the world.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Sam served as a senior program officer at the McCune Foundation, a program officer at the Forbes Funds, and as a Senior Consultant for Deloitte.
Sam, who left high school in the 9th grade and later received his GED, began his college education at the Lancaster, PA campus of Harrisburg Area Community College. Sam then transferred to Franklin and Marshall College, where he worked 1,000 hours per year as one of two scholars responsible for maintaining the 22-acre public park adjacent to campus in exchange for full tuition, room, and board. Sam holds a BA degree in Science, Technology and Public Policy from Franklin and Marshall College, Cum Laude; an MS degree in Public Policy and Management with a Minor in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University; and an MS degree in Biotechnology from The Johns Hopkins University. Sam resides in Pittsburgh with his wife, Sandra, and two daughters, Isabella, and Sofia.
